Marco Polo | Restaurant Week

Hearing about Newcastle's Restaurant Week was a perfect excuse to get together with some friends and go for some amazing food. Restaurant week in Newcastle is always a good one because the restaurant that may not usually be in your budget, now are. Restaurant Week that i attended was early August && with over ninety restaurants taking part - you're definitely spoilt for choice.
So Thursday night I got together with Ruth && Kay and decided to head down to Marco Polo on Dean Street. This is somewhere I haven't been for a very long time. They were offering two courses for £10 or three courses for £15. You can't complain for that, with some places charging that for a starter usually.
Upon arrival we were greeted and shown to our table near the window (amazing lighting for insta) and drinks were brought over. We browsed the menu && chatted about what was on offer.

For my starter, I ended up going for the chicken liver pate, fig jam and balsamic onions.
I'm not usually a huge pate lover, but i always like it in a restaurant, weird isn't it?! Anyways, this was so good, very rich & smooth. The perfect way to start my meal.
After we all finished our different starters we all went for the same main course of chargrilled swordfish & panzanella salad. I have had swordfish before so I already knew how incredible this was gonna taste before i had eaten it. This was served ontop of a panzanella salad. This is a traditional italian salad of stale bread, cucumber, onion, olives, capers & peppers. It was very refreshing && full of flavour. We all agreed on how amazing it was.
Myself & Ruth decided to go for the full 3 courses && ordered dessert. I went for the florentine doughnuts, cinnamon sugar and hazelnut ice cream. They weren't your usual doughnut shape which i wasn't expecting but they were pretty tasty.
Marco Polo will always be my favourite from the food, the restaurant itself and the friendly staff. Restaurant week is the perfect way to try new places && I'll definitely be doing the next one.

The next restaurant week in Newcastle will take place in January next year so it's the perfect way to bring in th eNew Year with some new dining experiences within the city.

What's one of your favourite restaurants?
