Safari Supper
With Sunderland Restaurant week just around the corner (IT STARTS TOMORROW) it was only right that i showed you what they have to offer.
You may have seen in August i did the Newcastle Restaurant Week, so i was super excited when i got invited along to the preview of Sunderland's very first restaurant week. They're running very similar to NE1RW where they offer two courses for £10, or three courses for £15 which i think is a pretty good deal.
During our Safari Supper around Sunderland we went along to five different restaurants/bars so here's what i got up to on the evening.

Our first pit stop was at Cafe Purple , now i was running horrendously late because i got super lost && ended up having a little panic. However once i graciously arrived i was greeted by the girls, a cheese board && a table full of cocktails - what more could a girl want right?!
There was loads of different cheese, dips, crudités && nibbles. The 'blue cheese dip' was sensational, i could eat that stuff for fun.
Out of all the cocktails i tried i absolutely loved the bubblegum princess - you could drink this stuff for fun!
I absolute love the decor in here - have you seen that chandelier ?! It's absolutely beautiful ! I also think i could do with that mirror in my bedroom.

Lucky for us our next stop just happened to be right next door at the Port Of Call. We basically had miniature canapés of anything you could possibly think of - even teeny tiny cheeseburgers. For the more sophisticated & brave of us in the group there was some mussels too (I'm not too ballsy on mussels)
A selection of cocktails from the menu where also spread out for us, I actually really liked the screwball && its bright green/blue colours. Not many of the girls were a fan of this but i really liked it.
Also the gingerbread martini, purely for instagram purposes because it looked so pretty.

On to our starters at the Funky Indian. Upstairs they have a super modern prosecco bar && downstair a really cool restaurant area. They offer a tapas style indian banquet, which i love the idea of. I always like to try new things so this is the perfect way to try loads of little things.
We were served five tapas dishes && i can easily say my favourite was the manchurian bhaj. We were also served Masala Fries && Chicken Poppers.
Manchurian Bjah - Indo Chinese street food of stirred cauliflower & artichoke with ginger garlic soya & sweet chilli
Juhu Beach Pav - Slow cooked vegetables on toasted mini pav (brioche) served with butter.
Malai Tulsa Seekh - Minced lamb kebab accentuated with aromatic spices, ginger, garlic & minced chutney.
Not only is the food really good but the decor is insane. They've done an amazing job here to make it look && feel so authentic. I love the bicycle rickshaw && all the colours that they have down here. It gives it such a chill out vibe.

Our main courses were courtesy of Angelos. They just happen to have an award winning dish for the second year running && we were lucky enough to try it. It's called the Strozzapreti Con Salsiccia e Friarlielli which is homemade pasta with sausage, broccoli, cheese sauce & sundried tomatoes. I can definitely see why they won an award for it.
There was other pasta dishes including one with a black truffle sauce which was to die for. They also popped out some margarita pizza - you can't beat authentic italian pizza.
Finally they served a beef steak dish && i am a sucker for steak, this was perfectly cooked.

Our final stop of the evening was at Sweet Tooth Delivery && after all the food we've eaten through the night i don't think i could eat it no matter how tempting it looks. After much debate i decided to go for the skittles rainbow cake, purely because of how pretty it is, also how instagramable it is (blogger problems) I ended up taking it home && sharing it with my mam (she was pretty happy i brought her something). We also got a choice of drink && i went for the passionfruit frozen lemonade. This was the most refreshing && flavoursome thing ever.
Sunderland Restaurant week will be taking place from the September 24th right through until October 2nd. I'll definitely be going along to try some new places in Sunderland. Also you can follow the hashtag #EatDrinkSunderland to see what everyone else is eating/drinking.
The night would be complete without a little photo of us!
