Top 5 Reads For October

I love a good book any time of year but theres something about being tucked up with a good book when its starting to get a little colder outside. If you know me, you know I'm a bit of a book worm so I thought I'd share some of my favourite books and ones I think are perfect for this time of year!
The Fault In Our Stars - John Green
Genre: Romance/Contemporary
This is one of the most heartbreaking books i've ever met but i do love it. It's been a worldwide phenomenon for both the book & the movie. This book follows the story of Hazel & Augustus and their lives battling cancer. It sounds depressing however this book is filled with dark humour, romance and the story of how short life can be. With this book you will laugh, you will cry & you will fall in love with both characters. I love to curl up with this book with a nice big cuppa and get lost between the pages.

Blackbird: A Childhood Lost - Jennifer Lauck
Genre: Autobiography
This is the story of Jennifer Lauck as a five year old girl living with her family in Neveda in the late 1970s. It sounds like a perfect family upbringing however her mother falls seriously ill and Jennifer no longer has the luxury of having a normal childhood. With the startling emotional immediacy of a photo album, Jennifer's memoir shows the hardship of child coping with things that no child should. It's deeply inspiring, sad and very moving. I've never been a fan of memoirs but i completely and utterly fell in love with this book.

The Help - Kathryn Stockett
Genre: Modern Fiction
This is an amazing book that was both emotional and thought provoking. It's set in 1962 when segregation was at it's height and follows the story of black maids that there to help raise white children. It shows how each individual woman finds the courage to cross boundaries and find each other making solid beautiful friendships in such a cruel time. I fine it hard to believe that this was based on a time just over 5 decades ago. It definately makes you think about the prejudice and intolerance in the deep south. You will fall in love with these characters as for how well written this book is.

The Almost Moon - Alice Sebold
Genre: Modern Fiction
Helen Knightly is the kind of lady who constantly gives her life to others. Her mother, father, husband and now-grown children. When she finally crosses a terrible boundary, her life comes rushing in at her in ways she could have never imagined. Over 24 hours this book explores the ties of mother and daughter, wives and lovers and the meaning of love and hate. This book is a little dark, however i got so caught up with this book. There's so many dark matters explored in this book so you kind of constantly stay on edge of what's going to happen next. The only thing with this book is that it will leave you with a lot of unfinished questions.

The Lie of You - Jane Lythell
Genre: Thriller/Mystery
One woman's fear is another woman's weapon. Kathy has everything: the job, the baby, the friends and him. A woman sets out to destroy Kathy's life and this book shows how obsession turns to the point of madness. I really enjoyed this book, especially how the chapters aliterate to speak from both sides of the characters story. This book twists and turns in ways you never thought, you think it's going to go one way but it goes completely the other direction. As you get towards the end of the book you will find yourself being unable to put the book down and trying to cram in as much as possible. Honestly, this is one of the best books i've read this year.
